Learn what it takes to make a startup, and how smart, tech-savvy founders can really drive the success and progress of global, startup businesses.

Are you interested in working in a startup over the summer or winter breaks? This is a valuable experience for all UQ students who have an interest in entrepreneurship. You will learn from experienced entrepreneurs, developers, professionals in ilab and the ecosystem.

Stay tuned for details about the next round of applications.

The ilab Startup Internship Program is an internship that runs over summer and winter breaks.

The program kicks off with an intern mixer where over 25 startups pitch to applicants for two minutes on their startup and intern roles. You will have the opportunity to mix with the startups, submit resumes to the startups on the night and chat to founders. Startups will then arrange shortlisting and interviews.

Throughout your internship you will:

  • undertake challenging assignments making the most of your skillset
  • network with the startup community, industry and students
  • learn how to adapt to busy work environments
  • receive feedback on your performance.

Will I get paid?

Due to the nature of startups, not all startups will have the resources in order to afford paid interns. We will try to find startups that provide paid internships where possible. Unpaid internships will be in line with the Fair Work Act and are restricted to 30 days.

To participate in the ilab Internship Program you must:

  • be enrolled and taking classes in a UQ degree program
  • be available at least twice a week to participate in the internship
  • provide a resume of skills that relate to working in a startup
  • behave in accordance with the UQ Student Charter

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
