NextGen Ventures is Australia's first venture capital fund that empowers the next generation of young, ambitious Australian founders by providing the support they truly deserve, before anyone else.
As an Investments Associate, you'll spend your time surrounded by other exceptional young people, learning at an exponential rate about frontier technology, and uncovering the most ambitious founders across Queensland with the opportunity to contribute towards NextGen's next investment.
A few highlights from NextGen's UQ arm over the years:
- Quianna, a former NextGenner from UQ, sourced and helped guide the investment into our first Queensland-based portfolio company in Blunge. Blunge was our second ever investment as a fund, and 12 months later they've raised a substantial pre-seed round to create an AI Design Agent that produces fully layered and on-brand designs for marketers.
- In 2026, we hosted two back-to-back events at UQ. A Founders Fireside, bringing together some of Queensland's most ambitious young founders, and a 'Founder vs Founding Engineer' panel featuring Alex Ghiculescu and Mitchell Johnson – attended by UQ's most technically capable student engineering teams.
- In 2025, we hosted another Founder Fireside, which brought along Luke Anear, co-founder of SafetyCulture, to speak with UQ founders about scaling his startup to a unicorn.
- During a startup conference earlier this year, we hosted everyone from the NextGen student team across Australia, including multiple UQ students, in a shared Airbnb in Sydney.
Each year, we continue to elevate the opportunities for our team to bond and grow.
Many of our UQ scouts have gone on to do great things post NextGen:
- Some have immersed themselves in startups → Jack worked as an Applied Physicist at Marathon Fusion; Quianna has worked at Gamma and now O3 in Sydney
- Some are leading communities → Hayley is now President of UQIES
- Others are creating communities → Emily is now running Hyphae Space
