Customer and Problem Discovery

This two-hour workshop offers a foundation to entrepreneurial thinking by introducing students to key business ideas such as target audience, problem identification and problem-market fit. It also introduces a range of methodologies such as customer empathy maps and open space technology, as well as practical theories such as 'lean startup' and 'diverge-converge innovation diamond'.

Duration: 2 hours

Design Solutions for Impact

This four-hour workshop addresses both parts of the innovation diamond. In the first two hours, students search or are assigned a problem worth solving. They then seek to understand the affected users or communities. In the second hour, they will work on designing and prototyping real, tangible solutions. Students collaborate in different teams and work on a presentation to show their progress and reflections to their peers. Challenges or problems that are currently being studied in class can be explored in this workshop (e.g.: climate change, mental illnesses, the use of technology).

Duration: 4 hours

The Entrepreneurial Journey

This workshop is delivered over a series of consecutive weeks both at your school and at UQ. The workshops give a comprehensive understanding on the different steps involved in the entrepreneurship journey — from an entrepreneur’s traits and personality, to customer discovery, product development, business modeling, pitching and storytelling and basic revenue and costing models. This workshop is suitable for students with an advanced interest and understanding in entrepreneurship, ideally with business ideas in a developing stage.

Duration: Seven sessions (14 hours)

Impact Leadership

Problem-led leaders don’t follow people, they follow problems. In this workshop, we will explore what problem-led leadership is, and how it can have a practical impact in the world.

This workshop has three stages:

Problem identification: Problem-led leaders don’t start their journeys because of personal ambition, they find a problem they are passionate about and explore how to solve it.
We will use User, Problem, and Impact statements to practice this skill.
Finding problems worth solving: To solve 'wicked' problems, leaders must learn how to work with diverse cultures, talents and disciplines; to turn ideas into practice, and to focus on human-centred solutions.
We will be using Design Thinking to practice these skills.

A Future in Metallurgy

This workshop, in partnership with Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre (Pyrosearch), will explore the intersection of innovation and metallurgy. Students will be introduced to key metallurgy concepts and tools to design innovative solutions to world problems. This workshop is best suited for teachers in the field of science who want to bring real-world applications into the classroom, and have their students practice the habit of seeing problems in a creative problem-solving perspective.
