Ventures Activate

Activate is a three-week remote internship program in entrepreneurship where you will work as a team to deliver a business project for an Australian startup, business or non-profit. 

This is your opportunity to develop your entrepreneurial mindset, empowering you to be creative, adaptable, tolerant of ambiguity and risk, and able to learn from failure. You will also be able to build your professional networks and further your employability capabilities.

Over three weeks, 22 June - 10 July, you will meet weekly with your team and work collaboratively to deliver a consulting project for a business or startup. 

Through this program you will:

  • gain hands-on startup and corporate innovation experience
  • develop entrepreneurial skills including problem-solving and collaboration
  • gain an understanding of the Australian startup ecosystem and corporate workplace culture
  • deliver three project deliverables
  • receive a certification upon completion. 

You will be supported by a structured program, learning content and a professional mentor throughout the program. 

  • Kick off. Wednesday 17 June 3-5.30pm
    Meet your team and startup at the compulsory orientation session.
  • Week 1.  Plan
    Come up with your project plan with your team.
  • Week 2.  Execute
    Deliver a draft report.
  • Week 3.  Present
    Pitch your final report to your startup, business or non-profit.

Current students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. 

To be eligible to apply, you must be:

  • a current UQ student
  • be ready to build your knowledge and skills
  • able to commit to a minimum of 50 hours each across three weeks
  • available from 22 June to 10 July
  • able to commit to two hours of weekly meetings 

Fair Work requirements

Due to the Work Fair Act 2009, students cannot exceed 30 days of unpaid work per calendar year unless they have a professional practice unit as part of their degree. As a result, students are not able to apply for more than one Startup Adventure, or participate in both Startup Adventure and Activate programs within the one year.
