Social Enterprise Explorers

Learn how you could make a difference through social entrepreneurship. 

Learn the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship. Our program offers six weekly workshops where you can work on an idea, individually or in teams, with guidance and assistance from a community of successful social entrepreneurs.

You'll hear from panels of experts who will discuss practical tips for creating and growing innovative products, services and business models to solve the world’s most pressing and urgent challenges. You will also gain access to our online platform where you can work on your idea and collaborate with other passionate entrepreneurs.

The Social Enterprise Explorer program offers six weekly workshops that run for two hours each where students learn key social entrepreneurship tools and methodologies.

During the first hour of the session, you will be working with a facilitator on different social entrepreneurship aspects and tools. During the second part, you will be hearing from social entrepreneurs about their journeys and their experience with the tools and concepts you learnt.

Winter program

13 August. Think like a social entrepreneur
Introduction to social entrepreneurship. What is your Mission? What are the SDGs? What are the first steps towards becoming an entrepreneur?  

20 August. Impact models for social enterprises
Ideation and team formation. PCSM Model. Design Thinking Model.  

27 August. Business models for social enterprises
The Business Model Canvas. The Social Business Model Canvas.  

3 September. Prototyping and MVP for impact
Market validation. Rapid prototyping. Customer-centric approaches.  

10 September. Pitching a solution to social and environmental problems
How to build an impactful pitch. Who should you pitch to?  

17 September. Final pitching
Pitch practice and competition. Information about the Brisbane social entrepreneurship ecosystem, and opportunities at UQ that allow students to continue their entrepreneurial journey.

The program is open to students, alumni and staff from all disciplines. 

To be eligible to apply, you must be:

  • a current UQ student, staff member or young alumni (graduated within the past 10 years)
  • interested in entrepreneurship, social and impact enterprise
  • ready to build your knowledge and skills
  • committed to attending all six weekly workshops. 

Once you've completed this program, we recommend you join our Social Enterprise Academy, which will help you launch your own social enterprise.
