Curiosity is our entry-level program designed to help you cultivate an innovative mindset, whether you're aspiring to be an intrapreneur driving change within an organisation or an entrepreneur building your own venture. This program introduces core entrepreneurial thinking and sets you up for success, no matter which path you choose.

As the program progresses, participants will split into dedicated strands based on their focus.

Entrepreneurs looking to take their ideas further can continue by joining our Validate Program, while the intrapreneur strand will delve deeper into strategies for driving innovation within large organisations.

This program also offers a unique opportunity to connect with undergraduates, postgraduates students from various disciplines who share a passion for changing the world through innovation.

Key dates and times:

Kick-off Tuesday 11 March 2025

  • Program 1 (in-person): Tuesdays (12-2pm)
  • Program 2 (in-person): Thursdays (3-5pm)
  • Program 3 (online): Tuesday or Thursday (5:30-7pm)
  • Session 1. Industry Speed Talks and Team Building
    Meet entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs from different industries to discover the real-world challenges that need to be tackled. Connect with fellow Curiosity participants and start building your team!
  • Session 2. Design Thinking
    What if we told you that through Design Thinking, you can not only deepen your understanding of the problem space you wish to tackle, but also generate innovative solutions to the issues you're passionate about? Ventures brings in an intrapreneur to share their experiences of creating projects for large organisations using Design Thinking.
  • Session 3. Prototyping and Business Model Canvas
    Let’s roll up our sleeves because it’s time to get build stuff! By the end of this session, you’ll leave with the initial design of your prototype. We’ll also kickstart your thinking around how to develop a monetisation strategy using AI platforms that can help you research. 
  • Session 4. Pitching and Storytelling
    It's time to put the final touches on your prototype and develop your pitch with the support of Ventures staff and ambassadors. Connect with other founders who have experience in pitching and get ready to draft your first slide deck to showcase your idea to the world!
  • Session 5. Innovating within a Business
    It’s not just about launching a new business: in this session, you’ll meet and learn from intrapreneurs who identify challenges, create solutions, and gain buy-in to develop large-scale projects within major organisations.
  • Session 6. Pitching for Permission
    Showcase your hard work and demonstrate that you've done your research! This event offers a friendly, supportive environment, giving you an experience you can apply to your future, no matter what field you’re studying.

Semester 1 program

Ventures Curiosity is open to students, staff and alumni from all disciplines and study levels. To be eligible to apply, you must be:

  • a current UQ student, staff member or young alumni (graduated in the last 10 years)
  • be interested in entrepreneurship and innovation
  • be ready to build your knowledge and skills
  • commit to attending all six workshops
